My name is Laura McGregor and I’m a Clinical Hypnotherapist at Nourish Victory.
This session is about learning to trust yourself in a calm, relaxed, genuine way, with a solid sense of inner trust that’s firmly grounded in reality. Because there are many skills and abilities that you’ve learned over the years that you know you can do. From simple daily tasks like making a cup of coffee, writing your own name, or walking down the street to more complex things like perhaps what you do for a living, or playing a particular sport or a musical instrument, or whatever hobbies and interests you’ve picked up over the years.
And here’s the thing: when you’ve practised something enough times, you start to do it better instinctively than you can ever do it consciously. For example, a professional tennis player needs to hit tennis balls that are travelling so fast that the players don’t have time to consciously think about how they hit them. And every sports player knows that if you start to over-think what you are doing then it interferes with your performance. It’s just like that story of the centipede
who was happily meandering along until she stopped and wondered which foot to move next, and then became so confused she collapsed in a heap.
When I’m giving a public talk, I don’t need to consciously struggle to keep every part of that talk in my mind as I begin. I can simply trust that, as I move through each stage of the presentation, the next salient point will come to me as the talk unfolds. Now if I were talking about a topic I know nothing about, like rare species of mushroom in Australia, I wouldn’t have that kind of trust in myself. But because I’m speaking about topics I’ve researched thoroughly and am very experienced in, I know I’ve got a solid foundation of knowledge and understanding supporting me all through my presentation.
The same is true about any skill you’ve learned in life. When you first learned to write, or to ride a bike, you needed to devote a lot of conscious attention to the task. But once you’ve practised a skill many times, you perform much better when you forget about it consciously and begin to trust yourself to do it instinctively. Instinctive learning is something your brain is built to do, and it’s very good at it, and as you relax and listen to this download, you’re going to be developing a strong sense of how many instinctive skills and abilities you have within you, and how capable your brain is of learning what it needs to know.
If you find this session valuable and you know anyone you think may help then I’d ask that you please share it with them. I drop a new relaxation audio each Thursday at 9pm PST. Be sure to subscribe to our mailing list to never miss a session. Visit www.nourishvictory.com for more information.
If your intention is to fall into a deep and sound sleep please be sure your alarm clock is set. Go ahead and place yourself in a comfortable position. Adjust your body so that you’re lying, with your legs and feet uncrossed and slightly apart, hands resting loosely in your lap.
And If I have your permission to guide you into a calm and relaxing state then just begin by taking some deep, comfortable breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.
And of course, as always you have the power to Accept or Reject suggestions as you hear them. You can practice this in everyday life when you hear something on television or during regular everyday conversations. And of course, you have the power to accept or reject any suggestions that you hear tonight. Please use these two powerful gifts as often as possible. Doubling down on things that resonate with your values and integrity by internally thinking “I accept that suggestion” and quickly rejecting anything that doesn’t “I reject that suggestion”.
And as you begin to relax I’ll bring your awareness to any sounds, just everyday sounds around your house, people or dogs in the background, perhaps cars passing by in the neighbourhood and these sounds do not bother or disturb you, as a matter of fact, they help you relax even more comfortably. And of course, at any time should you need to awaken, you can do so quickly and effortlessly.
And Those moments before you actually drift off to sleep - as your mind wanders and images can flow in and out of your mind - your mind is preparing for rest - to enter the dream world where anything and everything that you desire is possible.
As you prepare to dream your subconscious mind is busy sorting out any problems you've had throughout the day. So I’d like you to imagine bundling up any worries - any cares - and uploading them all to a safe space in the universe. Use your powerful imagination to notice a beautiful box that is a sacred healing space for your concerns. Notice what colour your box is? Perhaps it’s a treasure chest or a safe, or perhaps an elegantly wrapped shoebox. Regardless go ahead and rest your concerns in your special box. Watch as these worries and cares get locked safely away.
And now it’s time to find a home for these concerns in the universe. You can imagine a giant inbox in the sky where you can magically make your box appear and fit perfectly. Or perhaps you’d like to become perfectly weightless and carry your box to the closest star, zooming up, up, up, up all the way up effortlessly carrying your box and dropping it off, then finding yourself instantly safely back tucked up in bed.
And you can now trust that if you ever need to access these again you will have even more clarity and feel even more supported to deal with them.
And as you prepare to relax very deeply for a sound sleep
you can just close those eyes
right now
if you haven’t yet
and it’s often helpful to take a slow deep breath
and just let the air out slowly and evenly
as you really relax
with the reality of the fact that
being able to relax
and go into deep relaxation
isn’t something that calls for any conscious effort
because after all
when you drift off to sleep at night
you don’t do that consciously
you just rest that head on the pillow
warm beneath the covers
and you simply breathe comfortably
as bit by bit
the muscles of that body begin to relax
the facial muscles smooth out
the shoulders sink
and that mind begins to wander
into more dream-like thoughts
as those brainwaves slow down
into the early stages of sleep
and as you sleep
you continue to breathe comfortably
without needing to consciously remember to do so
that heart beats
the immune system and digestive system keep doing their work for you and you dream amazing dreams
that you never consciously planned
and as you begin to relax
more and more deeply
here and now
you can just notice
how the growing relaxation in that body
can happen all by itself
those arms can feel comfortably heavy
without you needing to try to make that happen you can just notice that weighty
heavy comfort
flowing through those fingertips
through those hands
that’s it
a deliciously heavy comfort
spreading up through the arms
and into the shoulders
as you drift even deeper still
in the knowledge that those legs
and those feet
can feel that same comfortable heaviness
as you prepare to learn at an instinctive level what it means to trust
in that foundation of intelligence
and learning
that’s always here
with you
wherever you go
that’s it
Because
when you learned to hold a pencil
and write the letters of the alphabet
one by one
it took a great deal of conscious effort
sitting at a little desk
gripping that pencil with that small hand
forming those lines and squiggles in that exercise book but day by day
bit by bit
it slowly became a more instinctive
unconscious
process
so that now
when you go to sign your name
that pen
and those fingers
just move all by themselves
they know what to do
you don’t even give it a thought
And in the same way
those legs know how to walk down the street
and that arm and that hand
they know how to shake hands with someone
just as that brain knows
how to have an enjoyable chat with a friend
where you can be talking away
laughing and joking
without having to consciously plan out everything you’re going to say and so much of what you do in life
the things you really do well
are things you do instinctively
unconsciously
and you can really feel the support of your unconscious mind the reality of that
right now
And when the manager of a business
doesn’t let the employees just get on with their jobs
and insists on micro-managing everything
demanding endless form filling and paperwork
checking on every single detail of everybody’s working day that manager may have the best of intentions
and just want the company to be successful
but all that micro-managing
all that paperwork burdening the employees
gradually starts to clog up the business operations
because people don’t feel they are respected
and trusted to get on with their jobs
and they have to spend half their working life
filling out records and reports
instead of doing the job they signed up for
and some of the brightest and most forward-thinking companies the kinds of companies people dream of working in
have realised the enormous value
of allowing their employees a generous amount of autonomy and freedom
to get on with their work
trusting
that most people genuinely want to do their jobs well
that people care about the work they do
and understanding
that excessive regulation and micro-management
serves only to stifle and limit people
and prevent them from showing what they can really do and what a relief it can be
for a manager
to realise that once you’ve taken on some skilled and well-trained people it’s okay
to give them a healthy amount of space
to get on with what they’re good at
and what a relief it can be
for an employee
to be given that space
to just get on with the job
And as you begin to appreciate more and more
what a solid foundation of instinctive learning
is supporting you
everywhere you go
I’d like you to begin to wonder
how this realisation is going to make a difference for you
in the days and weeks ahead
being able to know that you are human
to know that the human brain
is deeply and inherently talented at instinctive learning and to know that you can trust it to do its job and the more you give it a healthy amount of space to get on with its work
the better it performs
noticing the kinds of ways
this will enhance your natural and instinctive performance at work
in your hobbies and interests
and everything you do
just getting a sense of that now
And how is it going to enhance
your confidence and trust in yourself socially and in your relationships?
just getting a sense of the days and the weeks ahead changing
becoming smoother
more fluid and natural
as you develop more ease and flow in who you are in how you move
in how you talk
knowing that this foundation of support
this instinctive
unconscious intelligence
is always here
with you
working for you
something you can trust
that’s it
And of course you know
you still need to work hard
to prepare well
to put in the effort
so that you get the results
but it’s so nice to know
that you have support
you have a richly intelligent brain
that is brilliant at instinctive learning
and you can really let it do its job
And just notice
right now
how this is going to feel
some months from now
being out there in the future
with this calm confidence in yourself
and in your ever-growing abilities and instinctive knowledge that’s it
how you’ve become naturally better able to communicate to think creatively
to learn
and just noticing a particular person in your life whom you like and respect commenting one day on what a change they’ve seen in you over the past few months
how you’re so much more confident and creative these days and just absorbing that friendly compliment
as a simple truth
And you can listen to this session often
and strengthen this inner trust in yourself
each time that you do
And these suggestions are firmly embedded in your subconscious mind and grow stronger and stronger day by day - stronger by the day - stronger by the hour - stronger by the minute.
If you are listening to this recording at your regular bedtime then you can ignore the following wake up suggestions and continue to drift and dream - knowing that you will awaken, fully refreshed - at your usual wake up time.
However, if you are listening to my voice at any other time then you will accept the suggestions to come out of this trance - and feel all the benefits of this wonderful, deep relaxation session.
In a moment I'm going to count the numbers from one to five and at the count of five you will be wide awake - feeling already wonderfully invigorated - and ready to allow these suggestions - to work for you.
Exit:
I am going to count from 1 up to 5 and at the last number the number 5
I will ask you to open your eyes have a good stretch and say out loud the words wide awake.
1. Slowly calmly easily you’re returning to your full awareness once again.
2. Each nerve muscle and ligament has benefited from this wonderful time spent inwards.
3. From head to toe feeling perfect in every way, physically perfect mentally perfect emotionally calm and serene.
4. You will find that from this moment on you will have more and confidence in your everyday life. When you leave this building colours may be brighter sounds clearer and that is simply because you took this time to reconnect to yourself.
5. Opening your eyes and saying out loud the words WIDE AWAKE
